If you are looking for answers to stress you may have already read this websites section concerning anxiety.
Stress and anxiety can be closely linked, although not always. If you have read the section on anxiety, you will be familiar with the idea of a bath filling slowly with water, as a leaky tap drip, drip, drips. You will also be familiar with the term ‘the straw that broke the camel’s back’. Stress is something that can creep up on us unexpectedly, one minute we are happily juggling all of the competing factors in our life and then, out of the blue, something is different.
Stress can also be known as ’pressure’, and sometimes ‘expectation’ and is a seemingly increasing problem in all western societies. If we have, too much stress/pressure/expectation put upon us we can find ourselves in the grip of anxiety, sleeplessness, anger and low mood.
Stressful events and the feeling of being trapped in a situation can also have detrimental physical and psychological effects.
So what causes something to become very stressful or cause too much pressure? The answer is of course different for everyone, and from a Solution Focused perspective, only you hold the solutions to these questions. One of the wonderful things about Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is that we do not need to spend lots of time discussing the issues or problems our clients face. In fact, we know that concentrating on negative feelings or events can actually lead to the brain to attach greater emotion. If we are, feeling stressed and under too much pressure, the last thing that we need is to go over everything that is making us miserable or down!
We work completely opposite to traditional talking therapies. From the initial consultation, through to our last session we will only concentrate on creating positive solutions and changing our perspective of life. When start focusing on what we can change or influence, rather than what we can’t, we can change our perspective. If we can alter our perspective, even a little by achieving realistic goals, we can begin to regain control of our lives.
Hypnotherapy (trance) is very helpful for creating some space for the mind to contemplate possible solutions to life’s problems. Trance is actually a very normal state, which we often naturally slip into when reading, driving on a long journey, or even when doing mundane chores like ironing. Just the act of allowing yourself to relax totally can be the catalyst to improving your sense of wellbeing.
You will be pleased to know that we can work quickly and would expect to see some positive change within 8 to 12 sessions, although the speed we can go and the level of change also depends on our clients commitment to the process.
