Sleep is one of those things that most of us take for granted until we have a problem.
If we have a problem with getting to sleep; waking up too early; laying awake not feeling tired; or feeling completely exhausted regardless of the amount of sleep we have, it can affect every part of our waking life.
Humans, like all mammals need good quality sleep for the brain and body to function properly. The exact amount of sleep is different from person to person but each one of us knows if we are not getting enough!
Neuroscience has shown us how important sleep is to the human brain. At night when we sleep we move in an out of Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep While in REM sleep we process all of our emotional experiences from the day and move them from one part of the brain to the other. We know this process as dreaming. This means that regular good quality sleep is required to deal with the day’s events.
So what happens if we do not get good quality sleep? Over time, we create a sleep deficit, which adversely affects our reaction time, and our ability to process information. Incidentally, while adequate REM sleep is very important, in between, we have long periods of normal sleep and during this time, the body repairs itself.
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can help with sleep problems by simultaneously working on the following:
Promoting healthy sleep patterns through the nightly use of a sleep and relaxation CD/MP3
Employing Solution Focused Brief Therapy and psychotherapy techniques to help identify solutions to ongoing issues, that may be causing anxiety
Use Hypnotherapy (trance) to harness the power of the mind to discover and/or implement solutions
The good news is we are able to work quickly and we would expect to see most people to have made significant improvement after only 8 to 12 sessions. However, for most people the speed at which we can work also depends on the commitment of the client to the process.
