www.ocduk.org estimates this serious anxiety related condition affects 1.2% of the population in the UK. That equates to 12 people in every 1000 or almost 750 000 people, just in the UK. This means that most people in the UK probably interact with someone who is suffering with OCD on a regular basis.
Unfortunately, this condition is often hidden away, people who suffer from OCD will often go to extraordinary lengths to cover up their compulsive behaviours and/or rituals. This of course means that, as well as having to suffer with the condition, individuals can find themselves isolated from family, friends and the community.
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can be very helpful for people suffering from OCD. Fortunately, we do not have to spend lots of time talking about how the OCD started or going over issues from the past, instead we start working towards finding solutions from the first session.
We work with clients to reduce overall levels of anxiety, which in itself can start to reduce the severity of symptom. We do this through the application of a very relaxing form of hypnosis (trance), which allows us to influence the subconscious mind. A sleep and relaxation recording (Mp3 or CD) is provided, which helps reinforce the process between sessions. We work relatively quickly and we would expect to see some change after 10 to 12 sessions. However, for most people the speed at which we can work also depends on the commitment of the client to the process.
